“I called at eleven at night expecting a voicemail. Gunnar picked up, found the deadline on my paperwork, and had the hearing request in the next morning.”

Gunnar Wahlquist
DUI and traffic lawyer, Wahlquist Law
I grew up on a wheat farm east of Wall, where a driver’s license is how you get to school, to work and to the doctor. Losing one out here isn’t an inconvenience. It can unravel a life.
I started out as a public defender in Rapid City, in courtrooms from Sturgis to Hot Springs. Most of my clients were drivers, and most of them had never been in trouble before. Then I opened my own office on Saint Joseph Street to do that work and nothing else.
I take a small number of cases so I can answer my own phone. You’ll talk to me on the first call and at the last hearing, and you’ll have my number in between. Evenings are fine. Most stops happen after dark.
What I handle

Clients
From people who drove this road before you
“I drive a truck for a living. He explained what a conviction would do to my CDL before I paid anything, and that changed what I did.”
“We were ticketed on the way home to Billings. He handled the court date so we never had to drive back.”
Every case is different. What these clients describe doesn’t promise any result in yours.
